What is YouthLink?

YouthLink is a service unit that works towards empowering and supporting youth by providing information, programs, connections and resources.

Our Purpose

YouthLink was founded in early 2015 as part of the Retreat community process. During this event, several hundred Aurovillians looked at the themes of economy, education, governance, growth, town planning and bioregion & Youth.. The goals related to youth were defined with milestones related to housing, education, and employment. YouthLink has since defined itself as a Service of Auroville. The service is run by a group of young adults and works with a large number of resource persons by providing a link to different Auroville working groups, services, and units. Today, the YouthLink office stands at the Townhall complex, from which various events, programs and workshops are conceived.

What We Do

Connections

At the basic level, Youthlink will provide a central point of connection for youth priorities and needs.

Youthlink will organise gatherings - both social and professional, maintain profiles of capabilities and interests, provide information and maintain an active support system to help youth integrate into the larger ecosystem in Auroville and beyond.

Support

For youth-led activities, Youthlink will operate as a channel for resources from the various sources within and outside Auroville.

Support will range from the personal (counselling, housing, mentoring etc.) to the professional (project planning, financial resources, skills) in order that the youth-led activity achieves success.

Growth

Through its series of programs and projects, Youthlink will provide for experiences and skills development “on the job” on a voluntary basis.The goal is to provide youth with a safe environment and non-judgemental space to try out various opportunities without the pressure to commit to one or the other.

For those with the passion to advance youth causes, a position within Youthlink is an opportunity to experience a career in social services while getting more involved with Auroville.

Mentorships and Apprenticeships

Sometimes being young can be tough. Many young individuals feel the need to have more support systems when facing new challenging situations, moving forward in life.

Many experienced Aurovilians are happy to help guide and nurture aspiring youth in Auroville. From accounting to carpentry to mental health, we maintain an accessible database of willing mentors and their wealth of knowledge.
