We celebrated the Tamil New Year, also known as "Puthandu" or "Puthuvarusham," on 14 April 2023 at the Youth Centre.
It started at 4:00 pm with a traditional pooja, where we offered prayers and enjoyed delicious Prasadam. The air was filled with the enchanting sounds of Melam Nadaswaram, a traditional cultural music.
The celebration continued with various Tamil traditional games like tops (Pambram), marbles (Kancha), and gilli danda. The stage came alive at 6:30 pm with Tamil culture sharing by Induja, a mesmerising classical dance performance by Caveri students, and soulful Tamil songs sung by Abhi. The highlight of the evening was the collective lighting of the Deepam.
As the cultural festivities unfolded, the local delicacies like dosas, vada, and baji wafted through the air. Approximately 250 attendees joined us in celebrating the Tamil New Year, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere. The traditional music, vibrant attire and the participation of all the attendees and our team members added to the festive spirit.
Everyone had a great time engaging in local games, relishing the snacks, and dancing to the melodious tunes. The event was a resounding success, and the positive energy and enjoyment were evident on the faces of all who attended. Overall, it was a memorable and fun-filled Tamil New Year celebration.
