Bouldering is a form of free climbing that is performed on small rock formations or artificial rock walls without the use of ropes or harnesses.
A thrilling and educational bouldering workshop took place at Dehashakti gym, for over three days.
The facilitators were Aire and Matthiew to coach the session, providing guidance and support whenever the group had to be split up.
The workshop began with everyone introducing themselves; the history and evolution of bouldering were discussed along with an overview of the current standing of sports in the Olympic and its rules. Route reading, an essential skill in bouldering, was introduced to help participants analyse and strategize their climbing routes.
After the theory sessions, to put theory into practice, participants engaged in basic side-to-side movement exercises. Based on their individual strengths, participants were grouped accordingly, allowing for targeted instruction and personalised challenges. The day concluded with a cooldown, stretching session, and an opportunity to learn.
The second day was focused on developing essential climbing techniques.
Participants again started the day by warming up and stretching sessions, ensuring their bodies and fingers were prepared for the physical challenges ahead. They were introduced to the triangular contact theory, which emphasises maintaining optimal contact with climbing holds. The importance of straight arms and proper footwork in climbing was also discussed.
On the final day, participants began with a warm-up and stretching session, ensuring their bodies were primed for the climbing adventures ahead.
Group climbing activities further enhanced the sense of camaraderie and teamwork among the participants.
For those ready to take on the challenge, free climbing was offered, giving individuals the opportunity to scale new heights independently. The day ended with a closing stretch, where participants were encouraged to continue practising their newfound skills. Questions were addressed, and participants had a chance to share their thoughts and experiences from the workshop.
The bouldering workshop at Dehashakti gym was an incredible experience for all participants. It provided an engaging blend of theory and practical exercises, allowing individuals to explore the world of climbing. From learning the history of bouldering to developing fundamental techniques and building strength, the workshop offered an introduction to this thrilling sport. Participants left the workshop equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to continue their climbing journeys. Whether it's for fitness, personal growth, or simply the joy of conquering new challenges, bouldering offers something for everyone and to get ready to reach new heights :)
