Volunteer Gathering

07/11/2023

In the past, YouthLink has hosted three volunteer gatherings and hopes to continue doing so in the future.

Why are volunteer gatherings important?

Volunteer gatherings allow Auroville's volunteers to unite, share their passions and ideas, foster collaboration to build the community, and promote personal growth. They also help volunteers meet new people, expand their social circles, and stay engaged, motivated, and connected within the volunteer community.

How can it benefit volunteers?

Volunteer gatherings offer valuable opportunities for volunteers to connect with others, creating personal and professional connections. Engaging and motivating volunteers through celebrating successes, discussing challenges, and brainstorming new ideas can led to a stronger commitment to the cause they support over the long term.

From the first Volunteer Gathering at Humanscape:

The event was filled with fun, laughter, and heartwarming moments, 35 volunteers from various age groups and places from all over the world. Volunteers introduced themselves and shared their volunteering experiences, as well as their country of origin, in a sharing circle. They also shared touching "Aha Moments" that showcased their passion for volunteering. The gathering included group activities, such as chess, backgammon, and Blind Babble. Volunteers also brought musical instruments and created stickers from pamphlets and posters. Background music and delicious treats enhanced the experience.

Second and third Volunteer Gatherings at the French Pavilion:

Both gatherings brought together volunteers from around the world at the French Pavilion. They engaged in deep conversations and enjoyed games like Petanque, chess, Dobble, and various board games. These gatherings provided a fun and meaningful platform for volunteers to connect on a deeper level, learn about each other's cultures, experiences, and perspectives, and build meaningful connections.

Overall, the volunteer gatherings were a fantastic opportunity for volunteers to unite and celebrate their shared passion for volunteering, emphasizing the power of community when working toward Auroville's common goal.
